A digipak is patented style
of packaging made out of card stock or
other heavy paper/cardboard material. Digipaks can flip open like a book, or it
can have three parts, so that one portion of the packaging opens to the right
and one to the left, with the CD in the center portion. Usually, the portion of
the digipak that hold the CD is made of plastic like a traditional jewel case
CD - the plastic part is simply attached to the paper background. The shape of the digipak for DVD’s would more than
often a rectangular shape whilst a CD is square shaped. This is what makes them
different from an Album cover as it allows the consumer to get a lot more out
of the CD as it offers other features alongside to CD such as websites, games,
and maybe even interviews. On various faces you would find the front cover,
usually a picture of the artist/ band, as it is their debut so they are trying
to get their image across. Also the name of the artist/ band in bold, vibrant
writing to let people know who they are. The image would match the genre of the
band. On the back you would find the track list, record label and a barcode and
inside of the digipak you would find different features, sometimes lyric booklets,
or even more pictures. Where the disk is kept there may again be an image of
the artist/ band underneath just to make them stand out. There needs to be a
connection between the different net faces of the digipak so that it looks
effective and it all goes together so it does not look a mess. Tuesday, 8 January 2013
