This is an idea I have had for my digipak backcover. I would like to use this for where my other song titles will be .

Digipak researching ideas
I have been struggling to get hold of my band to take some photos for my digipak so I have been coming up with as many ideas as I can for each of the faces of my digipak. My ideas include the kaleidoscope effects which I may edit to use within an eye.
I also looked at the opening sequence to the Brady Bunch TV show which I think would be good to use with different pictures of both the band members faces with different facial expression and different coloured backgrounds

Digipak Brand Identity brainstorm
Recently my whole class watched one anothers music videos and brainstormed ideas for each others brand image, I found this a helpful task because my video was aimed at teenagers so the feedback will come into play a fair amount. The ideas were very eccentric which is exactly what the band aspires to be, some of the ideas include looking scruffy, using the colours red, grey and black and the use of leather for outfits and the Rock 'n' Roll genre

Digipak band research
Here are a series of bands I have recentlylooked at,I did research on their digipaks looking at their brand identity and making a decision on which I would like to focus on. The bands I looked at were Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Bloc Party and The Strokes. After looking at each digipak I have decided to look at the Arctic Monkey’s digipak as I think their digipak is similar to what I would like mine to look like. The Arctic Monkeys are a British indie rock band, similar to my band.
On the front cover of the digipak there is an image of a
group of boys, I’m slightly unsure of whether the image is of the band or just
a random group of friends as the band are not vain and are more about their
music, the image also reflects the target audience who are teenagers, also the
image not being of the band is interesting so it would easily grab the
audiences attention. The bands name is also on the front cover, however it is
slightly modest in the size of it. However it does stand out as the font is
black so at the same time it’s very bold.
The back cover on the other hand has the bands name in the
centre in a redish colour, the stands out and looks very effective. They have a
plain track list just underneath the bands title and also the album name
‘humbug’ written simply above the band name. The back is plain and simple but
still leaves a big impact on the target audience.
Also on the inside their is quite eccentric, creative art work, which reminds me of the kaleidoscope effect I used in my music video, the colours are quite vibrant and are shown over a black background.
I also
got an example from another one of their albums which has an old/vintage
looking image of a young man on the front, possibly them when they were younger
or even maybe one of their dads, the image is very 90’s which was a rock and
roll period matching the bands brand identity.
On the side where the CD would fit there is an image of an ash tray which I have been totally inspired by and hope to use something similar.
The colours throughout are quite dull and vintage looking,
the use of reds, whites, greys and black create a vintage feel which is the
look I want to go for in mine.Tuesday, 8 January 2013
Digipak research
A digipak is patented style
of packaging made out of card stock or
other heavy paper/cardboard material. Digipaks can flip open like a book, or it
can have three parts, so that one portion of the packaging opens to the right
and one to the left, with the CD in the center portion. Usually, the portion of
the digipak that hold the CD is made of plastic like a traditional jewel case
CD - the plastic part is simply attached to the paper background. The shape of the digipak for DVD’s would more than
often a rectangular shape whilst a CD is square shaped. This is what makes them
different from an Album cover as it allows the consumer to get a lot more out
of the CD as it offers other features alongside to CD such as websites, games,
and maybe even interviews. On various faces you would find the front cover,
usually a picture of the artist/ band, as it is their debut so they are trying
to get their image across. Also the name of the artist/ band in bold, vibrant
writing to let people know who they are. The image would match the genre of the
band. On the back you would find the track list, record label and a barcode and
inside of the digipak you would find different features, sometimes lyric booklets,
or even more pictures. Where the disk is kept there may again be an image of
the artist/ band underneath just to make them stand out. There needs to be a
connection between the different net faces of the digipak so that it looks
effective and it all goes together so it does not look a mess. Monday, 7 January 2013
First day of filming
When I first started filming I had some problems with my band as they were not co-operating making the task harder as the band members had a lot in mind of how they wanted the video to look, however I still got the majority of my footage first time which helped me out as I could begin editing straight away whilst still getting footage. I soon enough put my foot down and made all the decisions myself but did have some inspiration from ideas that the band had given me.
Editing process (effects)
As you can see from the screen grab, I tried an effect which made the band member in the shot rotate, I looked at the pros and cons of using this effect a lot longer than the other effects as I was not sure how effective it looked, however I decided to take a risk and use it. From previous research I found the effect of rotating the screen was very 80's inspired which was a rock and roll period of music which matches my videos genre.Editing process (effects)
Another effect I used was a glow, I editing some parts of my video so that objects in the frame would ‘bloom’ or ‘dazzle’.
I also put glow effect on some of the band members and the little boy character, which matched the music video as the videos theme is very surreal and 'rock n roll' so highlighting the faces of the characters amplified the genre of the video. I wanted the little boy to stand out because he represented the paranoia in the story.
